Using Your Take-Home Trays
Using your take-home whitening treatment is simple and offers faster results than over-the-counter products like whitening toothpaste. Dr. Warren Gase will provide complete details on how to use your take-home kit during an in-office visit at our Cincinnati practice, but in general, treatment follows along these lines:
Loading Your Custom Trays
The pre-filled syringes make it easy to place the whitening solution in each tray. Simply apply a continuous line of the carbamide or hydrogen peroxide gel about halfway up the side of a tray from one end to the other. Be sure to apply the gel on the side of the tray that corresponds with the front of your teeth. You should use about one-third to one-half of a syringe for each tray.
How to Wear the Whitening Trays
To wear your trays, place them over the teeth and gently press down. Any excess gel that escapes from the tray should be wiped away using your toothbrush. Dr. Gase will advise you on how long to wear your trays. The time will vary depending on the whitening formula selected for your treatment. Times can range from as little as 30 minutes to overnight.
Removing the Whitening Gel
After you remove the trays, brush your teeth as you would normally to remove the remaining gel and rinse your mouth twice. Next, clean the whitening solution from the trays with a soft toothbrush and cool tap water. Store the trays in the case that came with your kit. If you experience any sensitivity, stop your treatment and call Dr. Gase.
